Short film Moodboard

Assessment 3- Task 4

Script

SCENE 1-

INT. AIDEN'S ROOM. DAY
AIDEN is sitting in his room looking out of his window

AIDEN
(Voiceover)
My name is Aiden Reed and I was colour blind, I had been colour blind my whole life being only able to see the colour red in different shades. I hate the colour red, I see it everyday and it annoys me just seeing everything in plain old simple red.
Being unable to experience the supposedly wonderful effects of colour left me.. depressed to say the least and I could not stand not being able to share my friends and family's view, to be able to see what they see and live normally. But that changed shortly.. for better or worse.

SCENE 2-

EXT. STREET. DAY

AIDEN is walking down the street and picks up a newspaper from his local newsagent, reading the paper he sees the article on the colour blind curing contact lenses.

AIDEN
(Surprise then leading to excitement)
Oh my god, this is incredible! I.. I have to find out more about this.

INT. AIDEN'S ROOM. NIGHT
AIDEN is on the computer researching on the internet about the contact lenses

AIDEN
(Under his breath, talking to himself)
So they've been researching the potential for contact lenses to cure the colour blind all this time? This is amazing! Perhaps.. perhaps I could volunteer for tests, it could help speed up the research process. There must be a way to get in contact with them.

AIDEN then gets in contact with the scientists and is seen typing to them about volunteering for tests

SCENE 3-

INT. RESEARCH FACILITY. LAB 1. DAY

EDWARD approaches AIDEN with a smile on his face and holding a small box

EDWARD
(Clearly pleased and happy)
Hello Aiden! Eye den is it? Or is it Ay den? Nevermind, I have got great news for you Aiden. First of all on behalf of my colleagues I'd like to thank you for your co-operation, you have helped us tremendously by allowing us to study your unique condition.
We have made a lot of progress the past few weeks and we have finally managed to create the contact lenses with your help, everything has been wonderful so far but we may need you to do one more thing for us, is that ok?

AIDEN
(Hesitant)
Erm.. Yeah.. Sure, I don't see why not

EDWARD
(Delighted)
Excellent!

EDWARD places the box on the table and pulls out a contact lens case and places it on the table

EDWARD
It is important to us that we must first test our contacts before allowing us to continue any further, but we firmly believe that our latest rendition is our best yet and we would like it if you could test it for us?

AIDEN
(Delighted)
Absolutely! Without a doubt!

EDWARD
Excellent, however I must warn you that this is highly experimental and we ask that you strictly follow the instructions that we will provide you with, for example, these contact lenses expire after one week and so I would strongly advise against using it past then, is that clear?

AIDEN
(Not paying attention)
Yeah sure, i'll make sure.

EDWARD
Excellent, then I'll take you to my office to sign some paperwork first

EDWARD guides AIDEN out of LAB 1 towards his office and they engage in more conversation

SCENE 4-

INT. AIDENS BATHROOM. DAY
EXT. THE CITY. DAY

AIDEN is in his bathroom putting the contacts on

AIDEN
(Voiceover)
The first time I put the contacts on and began to see colour I felt a sense of freedom, an overwhelming happiness that I had never felt before, to be able acknowledge the idea of light beaming down from the sun, reflecting from objects straight into my eye and producing the sweet colour in my mind was sensational.
I had to go out and see the city, see everything that everyone else can see, see all the things that I had missed out on.
It was in those moments that I felt the happiest, It was then that I felt I had reached a 'colour high'.

AIDEN leaves house and explores the city

SCENE 5-

INT.AIDENS BATHROOM. DAY

AIDEN notices the expiry date on the instructions but ignores it and continues to put on the contacts after reminiscing about the wonderful week he just had.

INT.AIDENS BATHROOM. NIGHT

AIDEN attempts to take off the contacts at the end of the day but discovers they have merged with his eyes, his eyes then begin to hurt and it is clear that the contacts are causing him pain.

AIDEN
Its fine, I'm sure this pain is temporary, it will go away, it will. I'll just.. I'll just go and lie on the couch for a bit it will go away I'm sure of it.

SCENE 6-

INT. AIDENS LIVING ROOM. NIGHT

AIDEN lies on the couch in pain watching a documentary about travelling the world and experiencing the world as he slowly falls asleep. As he shuts his eyes the eyelids merge together rendering him blind for life, the screen goes to black.

AIDEN
(Voiceover)
My name is Aiden Reed and I am blind. In today's society colour symbolizes many different forms of meaning, it represents feelings, people, countries, cultures, it represents life and death and should never be taken for granted. My greed for colour blinded my judgement, and now as I sit here staring into darkness for the rest of my life I crave for colour.
My once 'old nemesis', Red, has become now my deceased best friend, the colour that I once hated and now long for every day of my existence.
The best colour, the colour that represents luck, blood, passion, death and even love.
The colour with more associations than others.
The colour that I love.
The colour that I miss.
The colour that I will never see again.
